1952 hardcover edition of Mary Poppins in the Park. It was written by P.L. Travers and published by Harcourt, Brace and World. The dust jacket is in very good condition with minimal wear around the edges.  One small piece was repaired with professional book binding tape on the back side. Shows a retail price of $2.50 on the inside flap. The dust jacket has been placed in a new, clear, archival wrapper for protection. The boards and binding are sound, without any obvious signs of inscriptions, marginalization, or dog-eared pages. Illustrated in black and white.

P.L. Travers's Mary Poppins books are considered extraordinary children's books because they explore the relationship between adults and children through a combination of social critique and mythological references. Travers's playful approach to reality and rejection of unnecessary rules argue for the importance of fantasy and myth throughout life. The books are full of references to Greek deities, the Bible, and Sufi parables, and some critics have compared Travers's work to William Blake, Zen Buddhism, and the Hindu goddess Kali.  Mary Poppins was banned from circulation in the San Francisco Public Library system in 1980 due to negative stereo typing.  Pollack-Pelzner wrote in that Mary Poppins isn't actually racist. He’s just pointing out that people say and do racist things in original P.L. Travers Mary Poppins books.
